Archbishop Miller's Visit

No homily from me this week. Archbishop Miller made his 'official' visit to the parish this morning and preached at the 10 a.m. Mass. He has been here many times, but always for special functions rather than a parish liturgy. He blessed the new side chapel/baptistery and by extension the entire renovation project, which included the relocation of the tabernacle to the center of the church and numerous other details--all of which he appears to welcome warmly. Other than on my ordination day, I have never felt more affirmed in my priesthood.

My modest technical skills don't extend to posting the archbishop's homily on this blog, but you may wish to read it on the parish website: http://ctrwestvan.ca/homilies/0833_001.pdf

  1. I take it that the reason it was an 'official' visit rather than simply an official visit is that it wasn't a canonical visit... or should that be 'visitation'?

(Sorry, I couldn't resist: I'm a Toronto seminarian, now a transitional deacon. We met in Rome in June 2007, around the time you defended your dissertation. I stumbled upon your blog by accident and I'm very edified by the great homilies you have posted here. Congratulations also on your good work at your parish. Deo gratias that your archbishop supports you - and the ongoing liturgical renewal - so strongly!)

  2. I wish I knew how to respond directly to this generous comment! But try as I might it's beyond me... so let me just say thanks for the kind words, congrats on your diaconal ordination, and yes, it was not a canonical visitation (my preferred term for the real thing). But a visit it was, and a most welcome one!
